"People will be most creative when they feel motivated primarily by the interest, enjoyment, satisfaction and challenge of the work itself." ~Teresa M. Amabile
I found out last week that I'm still considered a 'youth' in Trinidad and Tobago. Our National Youth Policy (currently under revision - though it doesn't say so) states that youth are those between the ages of 12 and 29. I'm not going to be one for much longer.
Had the opportunity to attend the National Youth Employment Forum:
Young persons were invited to discuss the topics listed. Policy makers were invited to comment on current policies and what could be changed/what could be added or removed. It could have been better organised. I think it could have been a chance to actually find out useful information. It's a week later and I'm still a bit bummed at how that day went.
According to the ILO, "young people are three times more likely to be unemployed than adults and over 75 million youth worldwide are looking for jobs". What are we doing about it? It feels like a whole lot of lip service thus far. Talk and repetition and I don't know if any of these ideas will come to fruition anytime soon.
I also had the opportunity this weekend to watch the cute guy at work. He loves what he does and it shows. I was told today that I'd figure out my own stuff in time.
How does one figure it out? ... and how does one help others figure it out?
Am currently reading Isaac Asimov's Foundation (cute guy lent it to me... *smirk*):
Overall very interesting ideas.
Thoughtful tonight I guess.
peace,
Ren
