On how to be adored...

"Glamour is what makes a man ask for your telephone number and a woman ask for the name of your dressmaker". ~Lilly Daché

I bought a book last Wednesday... in fact I mentioned the book-buying in this post. Book-buying is not an uncommon event with me - I freely confess to being a bookworm and find great pleasure in shopping for, buying, reading and re-reading books. Last Wednesday I went into the bookstore hoping to find something that would give some direction - something to help me discover my skills... what I'd like to do with my life... some sort of inspiration that would lead to an exciting new job/career... What I found, just past Pride, Prejudice and Zombies in the Children's Section, was this:

I admit that once I saw it I couldn't leave the store without it. The cover was enough to make me buy... those darker reddish parts? Feels like velvet... *sigh*

It is a very feminine book and covers topics such as 'Channelling Chic' and 'Seduction - Glamourpuss Style!'. Description on the inner cover reads: 'How To Be Adored is a style guide with a difference, featuring secrets and advice from a roll call of the world's most seductive women. It reveals how to achieve movie-star Hollywood glamour and be adored by all you encounter'.

I confess that I read out the entire book that same night. Why? It was just too interesting to put down. I don't consider myself to be the most glamourous of females and my style tends to lean more towards comfort than fashionable - but, ultimately, I am female. Sometimes one needs to celebrate this. This book is truly a celebration of everything female... I completely recommend.

Some quotes:
  • 'There's no such thing as an ugly woman. There are only those who have not realised their full potential' ~ Arlene Dahl
  • One that I've heard before and I guess a lot of fashionistas know: 'Fashion fades, only style endures' ~ Coco Chanel
  • 'When all else fails - smile!' ~ Elle Macpherson
  • 'Sexiness wears thin after a while and beauty fades, but to be married to a man who makes you laugh every day, ah, now that's a real treat' ~ Joanne Woodward
  • 'Charm is the key to gaining  glamour on the inside, it's the invisible part of beauty and nobody who is devoid of charm can be truly divine' ~ Caroline Cox
  • Lastly: 'Never go out without wearing panties. The only person who could get away with this was Marilyn Monroe' ~ Caroline Cox.
I am amused and perhaps shall try to wear lipstick more often... or high heels without complaint... or maybe just go around with a smile.

Happy Beginning-of-March!

peace,
Ren
