Time spent with my dad today

Almost a year ago I mentioned that my dad was talking about a house in Mayaro. I'm calling it his 'project house' - something that he's working on now that he's retired. It's tiny... 12 x 24 feet? I guess it can be called a 'studio apartment'.

My dad likes to do things for himself. He's a qualified electrician so he's involved with the electrics. He and his brother have been installing the plumbing. He's been trying to figure out storage and how best the house and land can be used.

He's been gloomy that my brother has shown no interest. He's been grumpy that I hadn't been to visit the project house in months - of course I did tell him that I wasn't going to be far from mom while she wasn't well (Mayaro is a 2 hour drive one-way). Now that she's no longer with us I don't mind going and spending time with him while he's doing whatever.

That's why I went Mayaro today.

I learnt that I'm too short to reach the ceiling to putty even when standing on a step-stool (ladders - they are my friends). That when cutting porcelain tiles the dust goes *everywhere*. That my dad, somewhere between the ages of 17 and 25,  maintained the electrical equipment of three saw mills. That hammocks truly are made to sleep in.

I didn't do that much in my opinion... but I did get a 'glad you went with me today' email when we got back home.

I'm glad I went as well. There's a lot we don't know about our parents, I've always felt that I know more about my mom and who she was as a person, than my dad.

I'm glad that I like spending time with him as well.

peace,
Ren

Terrific Tuesday...

"Health, contentment, and trust are your greatest possessions. And freedom your greatest joy." ~Buddha

I never know quite what to name blog posts so this will have to do - cuz it's really been a good day. No work today - was in Mayaro with the family (work people if you're reading this it was due to circumstances beyond my control). Got up with the sunrise and took photos, went back to bed, went walking on the beach, was befriended by stray dogs, went 'swimming' (it's in quotation marks cuz I can't really swim - I've had lessons on multiple occasions but they've never stuck) in a pool with my dad, tried to coax my mom in, spent some time in a jacuzzi, bickered with my brother, came home and played with and fell asleep with the kitten (who is a big cat now), and then realised that I'd gotten my Pottermore email (which resulted in a lot of time spent as I figured out the basics - I am now officially a Slytherin).

Overall it was a Very Good Day.

Hope you had one as well..

peace,
Ren

Lazy Day Sunday...

"Sunday clears away the rust of the whole week."  ~Joseph Addison

I had vague plans for my Sunday... which included going to a Carnival heritage fair being held by Festival & Creative Arts Centre (UWI)... didn't really get around to any of my plans though.

Got up at 4.30 am - went down Mayaro with my family. I think it's a good thing we don't all usually get up at the same time each day - we're pretty grouchy when we get up. Luckily once we were on our way all was well.

It was gloomily rainy... I lost an earring... took some photos... bonded with the family... thought about life and where I want it to go - what do I want to do? where do I want to be?

No answers yet.

Got home around midday - spent most of the afternoon drifting in and out of sleep. Some thoughts of maybe I should be cleaning/working/organising-for-the-rest-of-the-week... all thoughts easily ignored...

Ate cake :) orange-sponge? Yum.

Currently watching the Oscars pre-show... loving dresses on Scarlett, Mila, Reese... am always awed by all the work that goes into these awards shows. My faves? Inception -  is that up for anything? Black Swan - thought that movie was amazing... Any others? I'm so not a movie-watcher... lol... Currently liking the intro with Anne & James Franco...

Going to watch now. Maybe.

Wishing you all a wonderful week - hopefully filled with clarity...

peace,
Ren
